Mockingbird 01:40
Mockingbird Oh mockingbird, you sing me up each morning With someone else’s song Oh mockingbird, I wonder where you learned it I’ll always sing along All through the day I hear you singing sweetly And even when I’m gone I count on you and your borrowed melody To welcome me back home My own true love, I’ll sing you up each morning With every song you’ve ever heard Oh, my sweet love, until I have my own song I’ll be your little mockingbird
2.
Nine Long Days Ooh, darlin’ do I miss you Ever since the day you said goodbye Ooh, I dream at night I kiss you Wake up in a cold dark fright Sweetheart, will you come back home? Ooh, your mother sent a letter Telling me to leave you alone Ooh, I don’t care about her letter, Darlin’ don’t you let me go Sweetheart, will you come back home? One, two, three, got a candle burning in my window Four, five, six, got my hands in prayer around a crucifix Seven, eight, nine long days you’ve been gone Darlin’ won’t you walk back through that door? Ooh, darlin’ do I miss you Ever since the day you said goodbye Ooh, when I think about it Darlin’ I break down and cry Sweetheart, will you come back home? Don’t leave me here to cry all alone One, two, three, got a candle burning in my window Four, five, six, got my hands in prayer around a crucifix Seven, eight, nine long days you’ve been gone Darlin’ won’t you walk back through that door?

Hold On 04:22
Hold On When you don’t know which way to turn I’ll be there Just take my hand and I will guide you To the other side I’m like a man but I’m not frail And when I sing my song Your heart it will sail Will sail out on an ocean of gold When darkness falls and gathers round you I’ll be there Just like the stars up in the heavens I’ll be there I’m like a man but I’m not frail And when I sing my song Your heart it will sail Will sail out on an ocean of gold When you don’t know which way to turn I’ll be there

River’s Run Dry When daddy went to jail He left me standing here Left me standing here on a cold hard grave My dreams at night are dark All stars have lost their spark Got nothing left but a soul to save Mary run, your man has fallen Mary run, the river’s run dry My lover meant no harm He took me in his arms Took me in and said we’d run far from here I gave myself to him Though I knew it was a sin Deep in my bones I could feel no fear Mary run, your man has fallen Mary run, the river’s run dry When daddy found us there I was dreaming in his arms Dreaming in his arms of the love we’d share But before I could wake My father filled with hate He took that gun and shot my lover dead Mary run, your man has fallen Mary run, the river’s run dry

Wicked Polly 03:35
Wicked Polly Young people who delight in sin: I’ll tell you what has lately been A woman who was young and fair Died in sin and deep despair She went to frolics dance and play In spite of all her friends could say “I’ll turn to God when I get old; He will then receive mysoul” On Friday morning she took sick Her stubborn heart began to break She called her mother to her bed Her eyes were rolling in her head Oh, Polly, Oh “Oh Mother, mother, fare ye well: Your wicked Polly’s doomed to Hell The tears are lost you shed for me My soul is lost I plainly see” “My earthly father, fare ye well Your wicked Polly’s doomed to hell The flaming wrath begins to roll I am a lost and ruined soul” She gnawed her tongue before she died She rolled, she groaned, she screamed and cried “Oh, must I burn forever more, ‘Til ten thousand years are o’er?” Oh, Polly, Oh Young people who delight in sin: I’ll tell you what has lately been

Cora Lee 04:58
Cora Lee Cora Lee, Cora Lie When did I hear your train passing by? My footsteps were dusty, all crackled and dry The clouds they had darkened, the crows wouldn’t fly My last night of slumber I dreamt of your face While lightning and thunder dismissed you from grace I looked out in the morning and you caught my eye A band of black warning was splitting the sky The girl in the bottle lost me here What swallowed the sky will carry you on A dozen years later, you’ve stolen my sleep The ink and the paper won’t heal what you reap The house, it lies empty, no longer my home The wind and the whiskey still staining my bones Cora Lee, Cora Lie When did I hear your train passing by?
7.
Lovin' Henry 04:14
Lovin’ Henry I went to church last Sunday My true love passed me by I knew his love was changing By the rovin’ of his eyes Oh Henry, lovin’ Henry, Won’t you give your love to me? You said if you’d ever marry That your bride I would be She went down to the water When her folks were fast asleep And drowned her pain and sorrow In the waters cold and deep

Days of Night Miles of darkness, days of night Down so long I curse the light When I was just a boy of eight The dust from that breaker did seal my fate Now I’m an old man looking back My back it is broken and my lungs are black Miles of darkness, days of night Down so long I curse the light Never had nothin’ but my name Worked all my life on another man’s claim Hear the screaming of the whistle And the clanging of the bell Every day we dig deeper and closer to Hell Miles of darkness, days of night Down so long I curse the light Can’t see no further than the light of my lamp Way down in the blackness it’s cold and it’s damp I pray the Lord my soul to save No man should have to dig his own grave Miles of darkness, days of night Down so long I curse the light

Clementine 04:26
Clementine Oh my darlin’ Clementine You’re lost and gone forever In a cavern, in a canyon Digging a mine Lived a miner forty niner And his daughter Clementine How I loved her when she told me She would be mine Told the miner forty niner I’d take care of Clementine She filled buckets at the river Each day at nine Hit her foot against a splinter Fell into the foaming brine Ruby lips above the water Hands reaching for mine Alas, I was no swimmer So I lost my Clementine In my dreams she still haunts me Clothes soaked in brine I’ll ne’er forgive the river For he stole my Clementine Oh my darlin’ Clementine You’re lost and gone forever Dreadful sorry, Clementine
10.
Frankie & Johnny I All stories of true love are bold My lover left me sad and cold He said he’d never turn his eye As long as stars were in the sky His arms would hold me every hour How magical his power And stars were in the sky Each week that passed reminded me Of stories read of harmony Of dreams I’d never thought could be We passed each day as carelessly As though we’d never be apart How happy was my heart And stars were in the sky To lose your life, yet stay alive Oh what a way to die For every night and every day He’d chase all of my cares away But quiet as my watching eyes She gathered him to my surprise She took the love that I would share And left me standing there And stars were in the sky To lose your life, yet stay alive Oh what a way to die And stars were in the sky
11.
Frankie & Johnny II Wake me up sweetly with the early morning sun Honey, remember me, When we’re through and done And I’ll carry our memories in this little coffee can You’re my man but I’ll spread you around Don’t pack your bags There’s no time to say goodbye Let’s get up and go, don’t look back if you’re wise And we’ll drive ‘til all we can see is desert sand You’re my man but I’ll spread you around And when Johnny realized this road trip Was his last trip he knew he had let his secret slip As she pulled her gun out from her slip Frankie kissed her Johnny’s lying lips Before she let that pistol rip Go to sleep now, honey, Like the evening sun goes down And I’ll pass along your memory To every girl in every town If you couldn’t be true to me Then you shoulda up and run It was fun but I’ll spread you around
12.
Frankie & Johnny III For each love that’s squandered, A heart will turn cold Each lie’s a pure heart been turned I’d give up the pale blue that lives in my eyes To take back this truth that I’ve learned And I’ll never run again ‘til I know where I’m going Oh I swear I’ll never run again Missing you’s harder than wanting you back I’ve been careless and crazy with pride I’d give up these curls and the blood in my cheeks To see you again by her side And I’ll never run again ‘til I know where I’m going Oh I swear I’ll never run again Lonely woman In love with a victim of sin Lonely woman In love with a sinner and carrying sorrow within I’m lost to my body, a ceiling-less cell I’m the girl who went mad at the sun I’d give up my voice and every last song To take back this deed that I’ve done And I’ll never run again ‘til I know where I’m going Oh I swear I’ll never run again
13.
Pretty Little Bird You were the one that made me see That I’m just a girl who’s traveling light And I don’t wanna cry no more, No more tears for me This is my song for you, The pretty little bird that flew The pretty little bird that knew just when to go I healed your broken wing, Loved you when you’d sing Wanted you to sing but not to fly But you can’t ask a bird not to fly No you can't keep a bird from the sky
14.
Beneath the Waves I can see the lighthouse in the distance Through the fog I can just make out the coast But my legs feel like lead And I long for my own bed And I already feel like a ghost Beneath the waves, beneath the waves So far from shore I can’t swim no more And I’m sinking beneath the waves Just as soon as I set sail from the harbor I quickly lost my way No map and no chart I was doomed from the start Now all I can do is pray Beneath the waves, beneath the waves That bright North star She don't shine for me no more And I’m sinking beneath the waves They say God’s gonna trouble the water Well I got trouble in mind My mistakes and my debts, They’re a weight around my neck And I'm not gonna make it this time Beneath the waves, beneath the waves These heavy boots will carry me down And I’m sinking beneath the waves

about

"Trigger & Scythe" is the anticipated follow-up to Silver Thread Trio’s 2008 eponymous debut. The record pays homage to the trio's Americana roots but focuses on original material, including a few traditional arrangements. Over a year in the making, the album was recorded at Waterworks Recording Studio in Tucson, Arizona with engineer Jim Waters. The guest list of artists working with the trio -- Laura Kepner-Adney, Caroline Isaacs and Gabrielle Pietrangelo -- include Joey Burns, John Convertino and Paul Niehaus of Calexico. Trigger and Scythe draws it sound from traditional and old-timey Americana, combining elements of folk, gospel, alt-rock and country. Featuring the trio's trademark of haunting three-part harmonies, songs cover themes of lost loves, busted hopes, vivid dreams, sin, salvation and the ever-present specter of death.
